Rainy Day

July 15, 2004

It had been threatening to rain all day. I'd prefer it rain rather than loom over our heads and make me think that it's already getting darker at distinctly earlier times. Nevertheless, there they stood, undoubtably reminding many people in South Jersey of the flash floods that had popped up just two days earlier and caused immense damage. I watched as they passed over us. I had nothing better to do than watch the clouds on a Wednesday evening since my productivity had faltered some weeks earlier. Now I got work done only on those rare occasions that I was really content with where I was. Needless to say, I was only getting work done at all the times I was so tired that I didn't care where I was.

I sat back down in my chair to chat with the few friends that weren't on vacation somewhere and pulled up my blog aggregator. I had already checked earlier that day so not many blogs had new items. One of the blogs I hadn't expected to be updated, in fact, was. I muttered to myself "But I thought she said..." and clicked on the link to get there. Screw the excerpt, I want to read the whole thing.

And then it rained. It didn't just spatter for a second or two or prepare to bring something more, the clouds gave in and rained a hard, drenching rain for minutes. The impression of the rain was not minutes to my mind though, those moments translated to hours for me for I no longer knew how to trust. I tried reading slower a second time but I couldn't read any slower, I was just picking out phrases and words, all of the giving me a sickening sense of being betrayed. I thought that we had dealt with this in December. Everything I had heard over the past few weeks equated to nothing. Perhaps just words to keep me happy for the moment. I didn't know about this. I had to learn it on a blog.

Eventually, the rain stopped for me too. I asked a friend to read it to get a different (although not unbiased) opinion and they agreed with me, both of us dumbfounded about how someone could ever think that this was a kind thing to do. I had cooled a little and for no reason at all I started to design a simple blog layout. An hour later, I was on my way to creating an interim blog design. I had productivity and ambition and I was going to use them to their full potential while they lasted.

You see an interim design by the name of 'Rainy Day' here. I've been so stumped by my real design that I just had to get something out and this is what I came up with in a few hours notice. At the moment, the front page is all that's 'done' even though it's missing some serious linkage on the right sidebar. I plan on continuing to work on this design after I'm done posting this and hopefully have it done before I go to sleep (if that decides to happen tonight). Please point out any mistakes you find and they'll be fixed as soon as possible. I'm only so effective at 5 AM.

Angst is so much more fun when it's written well, don't you agree? I best try my hands at a trashy romance novel next...

Incredibly clear for a 5am activity!

This new design rocks! Good work, especially for 5 in the morning.

Absolutely gorgeous design (but I'm sorry to hear of the event that sparked it off)
