Nothing Like Area Rugs

September 25, 2004

I'm really quite fond of area rugs.
One day, I hope to have an area rug of my own. Choosing which rug I want, however, will be another matter altogether. You see, the reason that I'm attracted to area rugs is their tendancy to have a repeating pattern. I'm a sucker for patterns. I enjoy compacting patterns mostly. That is, taking a pattern and essentially playing tetris with it. One color becomes the background and the rest become pieces that may or may not fit together. Of course, not all patterns can be compacted. Even so, they're very specific memories that are linked to their location. Although I can't remember a specific pattern for a location, I can probably remember a location based on a pattern. I probably only have my constant fixation on these patterns to thank for that useless ability.

Suprisingly, TNT played the Animatrix series on TV tonight after the Matrix. If you didn't know, the first Matrix movie spawned a ton of fan-fic-video which may or may not have been directly requested by the Matrix enterprise. Some episodes were shown directly on the Matrix website but others were saved for the Animatrix DVD. Of the movies that were on the web, the product was amazingly professional and contributed well to mostly unrelated but Matrix-themed backstories. The ones that I hadn't seen previously that were played tonight were just as well done. I was particularly impressed with one episode where a group of people attempted to get a robot to abandon the robots and join the humans by playing mind games with it in a Matrix-like environment. I though it a was a really excellent premise.

I'm still on the west coast. I'll be back in Philly for a few days and then... I may headed back to the west coast on a slighly more permanent premise. More on that soon.

And now for some random linkage:
Everything I've ever taught my son I learned from Super Mario

Hey, congrats on getting to go to the west coast...good luck! :)

Area rugs are great. They really tie the room together.

Good luck with your various West Coast endeavors!

Brücke is 'rug' in German. But if it's a bedroom rug, it's Bettvorleger. You know, in case it ever comes up in conversation.
