Positively Palo Altonian

October 14, 2004

I have an apartment.
It's pretty small and has a serious lack of furniture but it's definitely located in the right spot for the moment. I'm just a few blocks from the Palo Alto Caltrain station which runs down to San Jose and in to San Francisco. Getting to work takes 30 minutes or less - a vast improvement from the hour and a half or more from Piedmont. Things I wish I had in my first apartment: a bed (IKEA, tomorrow/Saturday hopefully), a mattress (IKEA as well - using the AeroBed for now but it's only so comfortable...), a pillow (IKEA! Notice a trend?), sheets for said pillow/mattress (I-K-E-A), a desk (IKEA, teehee!), a shower curtain (where do you find these things?...IKEA?), my existing PC (being held by a friend - I might get it Sat or Sun), a new LCD monitor (I'm looking for this Sharp 17" widescreen monitor/tv - online probably... must ship fast...), a chair that rolls (uh... IKEA again! I love this catalog...), an internet connection (Comcast, probably - I can see a wireless network but it's encrypted, damn the media for enlightening people to security!), a pretty girl (Saturday... I sure hope she enjoys shopping with me)... That's it for now, I think. Food is probably in there somewhere too. I got some minor foodstuffs for my late dinner and breakfast tomorrow but I'll need more soon.

Anyway, Palo Alto is pretty neat. Stanford is just down the street so if I ever feel the need to get social, I can always head down that way although I think I'll stay away from college life for as long as I can. The main street around here is really pretty and has more then enough places to eat and shop and all other sorts of good stuff. It even has an Apple Store! It seems like the slightly better social choice for me.

I've got pretty limited access to the internet at the moment but my commute isn't nearly as long as it was earlier this week so I'll get back to posting on a regular basis.
