A Purely Domestic Update

November 6, 2004

I think I've done it.
I love that I can just sit down in front of a (working) linux machine and play for hours. I finially got Fedora Core 2 working well after being really frusterated with it since I first installed on Wednesday. I don't think it liked being hooked directly to the cable modem and I knew I had to get a router soon anyway. I wanted to pick up a router with a wireless g access point built in but I needed something quick and there are no dedicated electronics stores around here. I picked up an Asante FriendlyNET router for $40 at the Apple Store which was cheaper than any wireless router and faster than my last Linksys router. At first, I was kinda skeptical of the strange interface for configuring the router but they seem to have some pretty good features for bypassing security from ISPs that lock you to one MAC address and other similar things.

So, other things I did today:

  • Missed a theater production at Stanford (stop naming different buildings the same thing)
  • Configured feedsplitter to parse my new del.icio.us feed and output the right code to my sidebar (it's down there, below my other links - should I move it up?)
  • Updated and installed things needed to put Movable Type on Fedora (mysql 3 -> 4 was a bitch)
  • Almost put my cellphone under my name and address (this'll be completed monday)

And because I'm feeling obsessive about unordered lists, things I'm planning to do:

  • Work on MTStats (hopefully the config stuff rather than features so I can actually distribute the damn thing)
  • Design and set guidelines for a new blog of mine (more on this later, perhaps)
  • Finish up some work for work (yay work! I'm still happy about going to work every day...)
  • Food Shopping (the kitchen is empty again - I think I'm going to get stuff for making my very own egg+cheese+bagel sammiches in the morning)

Without further ado, I give you the famous Palo Alto Roundabout:

It's a roundabout
