Caligula Dismembered

November 14, 2004

I've been attempting to attend a theater production at Stanford for a few weeks now. I looked up info for some productions a week or two after I settled in to my apartment and there were a few productions that I saw in mid to late November. Now, it's mid November and I finially attented my first Stanford event. Caligula Dismembered (as seen in my del.icio.us links) is an adapted version of Caligula with bits of really relevent Shakespeare thrown in. As with most college shows, I thought there were some really excellent parts (and actors) and some not-so-excellent parts but overall, I really enjoyed the it. I had attempted to see it last week (it ran for two weekends) and didn't show up at the right place because of some duplicate naming on buildings but I finially made it out to see the show Friday! And it was sold out. So I reserved a ticket for Saturday and actually *did* get to see the show. The run is over now but it's definitely renewed my faith in college theater - after such poor showings at Union, almost any audience is a good audience. I know that Thursday and Friday of this past week were sold out in advance and the show on Saturday was full by the time I arrived to get my reserved ticket.

Next time I find a production to go to, I'll try to notify in advance as well just incase anyone happens to be in the area.
