Pride 2005
June 26, 2005
Holy Fuck. I don't know why I'm surprised but pride is fucking huge here. I took the bus in to check it all out earlier and we only got to Van Ness before the festivities blocked our path so I got out and started walking. I couldn't see another street open to traffic until I reached 3rd and Mission and I was looking down all the streets that cross McAllister and Market on the way. It's absolutely great though. I don't often smile with large groups of people around but there was such a great vibe around all these people that you just had to. The parade just went on and on and on. It really made me think of a huge July 4th celebration only with less fireworks and more assless leather chaps. I was only around for a little less than an hour before I went off to get some work done but it managed to get me to slow down from my usual fast pace and brighten my day.

I think that's why we all love California so much. They are way ahead of the curve.

Oh the gays! This is actually one of the largest Pride celebrations anywhere, though living in The Castro it feels weird to meet people for whom this is a big deal, who can't be out at home.
