A Tribute

October 9, 2005

Dearest Movable Type,

Happy 4th birthday! I can't believe it's been four years already... well, I guess it hasn't really been four years for us. I mean, we haven't been together since the very beginning and I know you don't really like it when I talk about my publishing system back then. You know they didn't mean anything to me... I mean, look at them now - who would want something with all that spam? I'd be afraid I'd catch something with all that nasty spam floating about. You can never tell who they might have been with one pageview earlier. What the fuck am I doing?... I should be thinking about all your great features on your day! I remember when I first saw you, you were so awesome! That whole hosting thing was a bit more demanding than some of the other publishing systems I've been with - not that it hasn't been rewarding, of course, I'm just saying that perhaps I had my doubts at first. After all this time though... we've been through quite a lot and I'm not looking to stop any time soon :) I mean, I know we had some rough spots and there was that time that I made you try that thing that you didn't want to do but those times are past, I swear. It's all strictly front-end web publishing from here on. You know I really liked your first look but you were so determined to look grown up like all those other fake publishing systems that were the new hot thing for the day. Look at you today though! You've got this professional look to you that feels so natural even though we all know you're getting just a little help from that ajax thing :) I'd even go so far as saying that you look downright sexy with those nifty blue-green curves and dropshadows!

I guess the real reason I'm here today is to thank you for letting me get to know you and introducing me to your friends. I mean, TypePad is such a great person and we talk a lot but she's just so easy... don't get me wrong, I love working on her team and all, I just feel like there's no pushback there. "Wanna make a post?", "Wanna upload a photo?", "Wanna trackback that post?" is all I hear all fucking day and it's driving me a little crazy to be honest. I like to work for my photo uploads because it gives me a sense of accomplishment - you give me that sense of accomlishment, MT! Oh, and LJ, don't even make me get in to it. I mean, we talk and all but every time we do I feel like I could be sucked in to another hour of all that drama that goes on in her life. I just don't want that day to day. Her userpics though... totally hot. You should definitely get yourself a pair of those next time you get some features.

So here's to the next four years MT! I can't even begin to think where you'll be in four years - on to great things, surely. I hope I can follow you all the way there!

Yours,
Nick

You are a sick, sick man, my friend. I'm glad to see that you're having such an (un)healthy long-term relationship with someone so close and understanding!

When the geeks inherit the earth, surely you will be king. :). Miss you!!
