Movie Night: Shaolin Soccer

January 14, 2004

Tonight's movie was the utterly strange but interestingly funny Shaolin Soccer.
It's about an absurd group of brothers who used to practice a type of Kung Fu called Shaolin. One of the brothers who is searching for new ways to use Kung Fu is struck by the idea of using it to play soccer and he attempts to get his brothers back together, coached by an old soccer great. Hilarity ensues. Mostly because translation from Chinese is terrible (You make scarifice[sic]?) but also because it's supposed to be comedy, no matter how lame it really is.

Rent it. See it. It's worth your time. Just remember to leave logic and reason at the door.

Resolution: Watch more random kung fu. Even bad kung fu is good kung fu.

one of my friends brought back Ninja Cheerleaders from China, which will be ripped very soon. I would imagine it should be a softcore laugh riot, though it is not quite the type of film you are disccusing here.

How does one pronounce Shaolin? Can't order it if I can't say it............

I saw some weird ass Chinese flick somewhere on cable. It was about this kid who got kicked out of every high school ever because of his powers that would always get him in trouble. Except this last high school where they harness those powers for good...against the evil bully, of course. But that wasn't the weirdest part...all of the characters were dubbed into English by known...get this...RAPPERS.
