MT 3.1 - Where's DevNet?

July 27, 2004

MovableTypeSixApart released new info at BlogOn 2004 about MT 3.1. I spent my time discussing things in irc.freenode.net/#blogon while it was going on so I heard a little about it when it was announced. Unfortunately, we all had to wait until Monday before real, solid info came out. If you're interested, you can check out the new features via movabletype.org. I can't wait to get my hands on the new version of MTBlacklist - Jay Allen put out a few screenshots in a post on the comment spam clearinghouse and it looks awesome. Similarly, just having plugins packaged with MT 3.1 will be a great way to get people to use MT in new and interesting ways. Release is on Aug. 31st so we still have some waiting to do. Pity that I haven't heard anything about beta testing...

My actual question deals with the MovableType Developer Network which could be amazingly helpful in some of the freelance work that I'm doing right now. The last email that I got about it was May 25th which is quite some time ago. I did hear a little snippit of info while on #blogon about Ben and Mena mentioning the dev network but it seems to have been left out of any official posting from 6a. If you're interested in getting on the mailing list in hopes of some activity soon, you can check it out here. Anyone who was at BlogOn and knows exactly what was said during that particular part of the presentation is welcome to share their info...

Lastly, I've been seriously thinking about reapplying for a job at 6a. The Web Designer job has been open for some time now - all the while I've been cowering from my first rejection when I know I'm well qualified for this position. Steve got me thinking about it again and I've been trying to figure out how long I should wait if I'm going to reapply. Is 5-6 months enough? Will I be semi-ignored again? Eek, I remember the butterflies from applying for that job very well.

Yo homie. I'm coming to Philadelphia this weekend. I'll be staying with Margo from Friday afternoon to Wednesday morning, so let's get in touch cause I'd really love to see you.

The lack of updates on the developer network is absolutely a problem, and honestly it's something I'm working on right now. I expect we'll have a substantial update within the next week or so, including a beta version of MT3.1 for people to test.

We'll probably be reintroducing the network as a "professional network" to reflect the fact that it includes things for designers and consultants as well as coders, and that's part of what has taken time to iron out.

Keep your eyes on MT.org and Six Log, we'll have more news soon. Thanks for being patient!

Oh, and email me your application info again (anil at sixapart dot com) and I'll be glad to pass your info on to the appropriate folks. :)

I came across that job listing via something else and thought of you and here you are thinking about applying. Go. For. It!
