One Very Simple Victory
October 8, 2004
Hey, I survived the flight. It feels funny to land in San Francisco and just feel your main worry fade away - I'm always so preoccupied with how much I dislike flying that I could do nothing but smile when we were finally on the ground and heading towards the terminal. A few hours later I started stressing over finding a place to live but it doesn't feel nearly as horrible as stressing over a flight.
Last night was spent drawing myself directions for my first quest to go out and check some apartments in person. Today I stopped first in SOMA and didn't really like the area where the apartment in question was located so I headed to my next stop in Millbrae. Millbrae seems like an ideal location for me, especially since there's a nice shopping center around the area where the Caltrain/BART station is - quite convenient for someone who doesn't have a car and doesn't plan to for a while, at least. The fusion of a Caltrain and BART station allows me to get to work (via the Caltrain) and go in to San Francisco (via BART) when I want. It's quite residential there though and not many 1br apartments seem to be showing up on craigslist. My last destination today was Palo Alto which I really enjoyed. The apartment that I went to check out was pretty simple and not terribly interesting but the Palo Alto area (the California Ave Palo Alto area) was really interesting to me and I'll be making a list of more Palo Alto places to check out for tomorrow. Of course, I'm no Anil Dash but if anyone happens to know of a 1br apartment in Millbrae or Palo Alto (or any other Caltrain accessable area that you might think interesting), please let me know - email is on the sidebar.
As it turns out, I'm going to meet (erm, work with?) someone that I really admire for their work on MovableType. As if all the other employees that I admire at Six Apart weren't enough, Jay Allen is moving from Budapest to San Francisco to become the MovableType product manager. Congrats, Jay. I'd say "Welcome to the party" but I'm barely at the party myself :) My life just gets cooler by the day.
