The Secret Painkiller War

March 4, 2005

Before this week I never really understood why some people choose one brand of pain reliever over another. I grew up in a household that always had tylenol on hand and it always worked for me. So when I needed some painkillers a few weeks after I got out to the west coast, I got some tylenol at the store - out of habit if nothing else. In the past few weeks, however, I have seen a lot more pain and painkillers than ever before. I called a dentist about getting my wisdom teeth checked out earlier this week and I'm just waiting for someone to get back to me about it. Anyway, I was taking this tylenol for the pain and sometimes it would just dull the pain for an hour and then stop working. Unfortunately, I just kinda dealt with that for a while. A couple times I've needed to take something at work for it and we happen to have advil there. I didn't notice the first few times but more recently I've found that advil has made me feel MUCH better than tylenol did - so much so that I went out and got myself a bottle of advil last night. There are nights when it's painful enough that I'm up all night because of it and it's really quite unpleasant. My teeth started hurting a little around 10.30 last night and I ended up taking two advil a half-hour before I went to bed.

I slept like a child. I had no idea I could feel so rested after sleep on a weeknight.
